Yes, we all know the venture economy has changed. The trouble is that young companies are holding onto the expectation that capital will be found if they look hard enough. Well, that’s the first shift in thinking that has to be acknowledged if they’re going to find capital: things have changed and the venture economy has moved and left no forwarding address. We have to remap the course to raising capital. Venture funds are repairing their portfolio and tending to their wounded. Angel investors are looking but remain very cautious, still waiting for their public stock investments to recover. Yet there is capital to be found, for at a price. So it’s time to look at the capital market differently, for starters, through the eyes of the investors. Understand them, and you’ll begin to find a path to funding.

Andy has been been a venture investor since 1990 and has funded more than 35 companies. Prior to founding Arctaris he was a founding partner at Brook Venture Partners and before that he did transatlantic investment banking at Downer & Company (Boston and Paris) where he first became interested in venture investing. His most intellectually stimulating job was with Arthur D. Little, and his corporate experience came as president of a research division of Equifax, Inc. His entrepreneurial instincts were honed with a publishing venture he launched and sold 12 years later to a division of Thompson.
He graduated from Clarkson University (B.S.) and Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth (MBA). He regularly writes and speaks on venture financing.
